SIOUX FALLS – United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced today that U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier has sentenced a Yankton, South Dakota, man convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. The sentencing took place on October 5, 2026.
Steven Duncan, 67, was sentenced to two years and six months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $500 fine and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Duncan was indicted for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person by a federal grand jury in March 2026. He pleaded guilty on July 17, 2026.
Duncan was arrested in November 2025 by the Yankton Police Department in possession of a pistol and ammunition. He was prohibited from possessing both the firearm and the ammunition because of a prior felony conviction for Driving Under the Influence, Fifth Offense, in November 2010.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Connie Larson prosecuted the case.
Duncan was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
